Ammolite is an opal-like crystal that forms from the fossilized shells of ammonites.
Ammonites were a species of mollusk that went extinct roughly 65 million years ago. Fossilized surfaces of ammonites vary greatly depending on the region where the specimen was discovered and the environmental conditions available when fossilization took place; some maintain rough natural ridges, some become light and pearlescent, and others become dark with a striking red and green iridescence called ammolite. All of them are beautiful reminders of the natural world.
