Beautiful, dark Heat Enhanced Citrine.
What does "Heat Enhanced" mean? This variety of Citrine is actually heat-treated Amethyst. Does that mean it's a fake crystal? No. It’s a natural crystal that’s been enhanced with heat. Citrine is the name given to any variety of yellow-orange (and even greenish!) Quartz.
Naturally-occurring Citrine gets it's color from geothermal heat when it was formed. When you heat certain varieties of Amethyst, it becomes yellow-orange Citrine. It’s the same process that occurs naturally, just recreated by humans. Fun fact: not all amethysts are capable of being heated into Citrines, either - so we think that they’re pretty special.
